The Datejust was the first self-winding watch to show the date in an aperture on the dial that jumps instantly at midnight to ensure that the date is "right" at all times. With its timeless design, perfect time legibility, date window and self-winding movement, this model has remained one of the most popular Rolex watches since its launch in 1945.

This 1986 model retains the design of the "Oyster" case and the vintage touch with the domed plexiglass crystal, but features a flat dial and the single quick-date function added on this reference.

The dial of this champagne-coloured Rolex Datejust features at 6 o'clock the logo of the **Sultanate of Oman emblem surmounted by the royal crown**. This symbol, composed of a sheathed Khanjar dagger with two crossed swords, symbolises the historical weapons used by the people of **Oman**. This suggests that the watch was given as a gift by the royal family of Oman.

The original Rolex certificate is stamped by **Khimji Ramdas**, the only official Rolex dealer in Muscat. 

This watch comes with its original Rolex certificate (date of sale 1988).

Few models can claim to represent the Manufacture F.P. Journe as well as the Octa Réserve de Marche. It is in fact the first automatic model and one of Journe's founding models, along with the Tourbillon Souverain and the Chronomètre à Résonance, which was at the origin of a large number of models that appeared in the following years.

The Octa movement appeared in 2001, with the 'simple' idea of achieving the best possible degree of precision and autonomy for a wristwatch. This calibre, manufactured in rhodium-plated brass from 2001 to 2004/2005, ensures chronometric precision for 120 hours or 5 days and has an effective power reserve of 160 hours. A feat for its time, it has since required only 2 evolutions, and François-Paul Journe has declared that this calibre has "almost unreal performance".

Around 2,000 examples of this brass calibre have been produced, all ranges combined, and all were manufactured exclusively between 2001 and 2004/2005.

Manufactured in 2002, this model has a 38mm platinum case and a lightly textured yellow gold dial whose colour varies according to exposure to the sun. The sub-dial at 3 o'clock, the signature of most F.P. Journe watches, is in silver with a guilloché finish and displays the hours, minutes and small seconds. The hands, so characteristic of F.P. Journe, form a perfect contrast with the dial. The large date is visible at 11 o'clock and the power reserve at 7.30 o'clock. The whole, 10.6 mm thick, is perfectly harmonious and balanced.

This model, which is no longer in production, is a highly coveted collector's item.

Launched in 1956, the Day-Date was the first watch to display the day and date simultaneously through an aperture in the dial. Rolex has never made a secret of its association with influential personalities, including a number of presidents, a fact that has earned this model its nickname.
With a diameter of 36mm, reference 18239 was produced between **1989 and 2000**. A wide variety of dial configurations were offered at the time, including some in hard stone or even [wood](https://www.41watch.com/en/accueil/891-rolex-daydate-or-jaune-cadran-bois) (as our colleagues at 41Watch recently had), but all were now flat, unlike the domed dials present on the earlier reference 1803. 

The most useful improvement for this reference was the addition of a double function for rapidly setting the date and day using the crown. This technical advance was made possible by the new calibre 3155, which replaced the calibre 3055 used in the previous generation.

As soon as this model came out, Rolex offered a choice of 25 different languages for the day display, English obviously being the most commonly used around the world.

Our model has a rare black dial - the majority of production was silvered - with the inscription **"Swiss Made"** at 6 o'clock. This feature is only found from 1999 onwards and therefore only available for one year, indicating luminescent coating for index and hands, which match perfectly with our model produced in 1999. A dial with this inscription and an earlier production date would indicate that the original dial had been replaced during service.

Launched in 1956, the Day-Date was a pioneering timepiece, being the first watch to simultaneously display the day and date through an aperture on the dial. Known for its association with influential personalities, including many presidents, Rolex also gave this name to the bracelet of this model. 

Initially available in 36mm, the Day-Date was offered in 41mm around 2008 before being replaced in 2015 by 40mm cases. Made in Everose gold and equipped with a green dial with applied Roman numerals, this watch leaves no one indifferent. As soon as this model was released, Rolex offered a choice of 25 different languages for the day and date display, English obviously being the most commonly used around the world.

Here, however, it is in Arabic that this information can be read, a first indication of the rarity of this model.

The Patek Philippe reference 3970 combines a perpetual calendar with a chronograph complication. This timepiece illustrates the Geneva-based company's watchmaking expertise and is part of the brand's legacy.

Following on from the iconic reference 2499, the 3970 was produced from 1986, during complicated times for the Swiss watchmaking industry (especially with the quartz crisis). It was also introduced one year after the classic Perpetual Calendar reference 3940 illustrated in this [article](https://geneva.41watch.com/journal/technical-reviews/patek-philippe-perpetual-calendar---3940g-vs-5140g). 

Four successive series succeeded throughout the production until 2004, we wrote an in-depth [article](https://www.41watch.com/en/blog/patek-philippe-calendrier-perpetuel-chronographe-3970-the-four-series-n136) if you want to learn more about these variations. 

Produced in 2001, this example belongs to the fourth and last series, which scholarship indicates was made in 2'000 examples, encompassing all four metals (yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and platinum).
This particular platinum Ref. 3970EP stands out due to its uncommon semi-glossy black dial with sword-shaped indexes, a feature present in only a few instances as most platinum pieces were equipped with glossy black dials and diamond-set indexes.

The dial on this fourth series 3970EP respects the same key design principles as other Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronographs by displaying the day and month at 12 o'clock, a 30-minute chronograph counter and leap year at 3, the date and moonphase at 6 and the seconds subdial and AM/PM indication at 9. 

Underneath, caliber CH 27-70 Q, based on the Lemania 2310 to replace the Valjoux 13-130 of the reference 2499, is a manual winding movement equipped with a column wheel mechanism and bears the Geneva Seal hallmark. 

This watch comes with its box, outer-box, Patek Philippe extract from the Archives, second closed caseback, Patek Philippe tag, stylus and an additionnal Patek Philippe leather strap.

Introduced in 1968, the Ellipse's design is no accident, since it is based on the golden ratio, considered to be the "divine proportion" found in nature and in the greatest works of architecture and art. 

Manufactured by the dial-maker Singer for Patek Philippe, the dials feature an extremely simple yet striking contrast between the yellow gold hour-markers and hands and the blue dial with its soleillée finish.

Our example is fitted with an MK3 dial, recognisable by the domed hour markers and hands and the "Sigma σ" symbols visible on the dial at 6 o'clock. The "Sigma σ" symbol was introduced in the 1970s by the Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l'Or (or "APRIOR") to highlight prestigious manufactures and therefore signifies that the hour-markers are made of solid gold.

This version of the Ellipse, known as the "Jumbo", is equipped with a mechanical self-winding micro-rotor movement, calibre 240, which made its appearance in this model, reference 3738, in 1977, nine years after the launch of the collection.

This is the first generation with automatic winding, introducing the legendary calibre 240 with micro-rotor. A true horological feat, this manufacture calibre enables the case to be kept with unrivalled finesse while providing a power reserve of around 45 hours.
